Who are Ultravino and why should I buy from you?
Ultravino (the UV in the logo), have been successfully importing wines since 2017. We are passionate about wine and we offer a curated selection from small artisan growers at fair prices. We know all our producers personally; we understand their terroir, philosophies and rich heritage in producing top notch wines. We like to champion exciting up and coming new producers and our wines are imported directly by us, so no middlemen required!
How do I find my way around the different wines in your online store?
Easy. The filters on the left-hand side will help you refine your selection by choosing the metrics that are important to you including price, type of wine, grape variety and region. You can also use the keyword search function at the top of the page to find a particular wine if you already know its name or the name of the producer.
Your range of wines focusses heavily on the Piedmont region of Italy. Why?
We started out as a Piedmont specialist fine wine importer and for good reason. Piedmont is one of the most exciting wine regions in the world with a diverse array of grape varieties. Our goal is to bring to the UK the wines adored and enjoyed by the locals themselves - the real authentic deal. Since we started, we have continued on a selective journey of expansion choosing the finest examples from other Italian regions. The launch of UVenoteca gives us the opportunity to spread the love and bring our super wines to a wider audience. We are small and dedicated, but our ambitions are big. We will continue to expand our range but never to the detriment of offering top quality wines at fair prices.
Why can I only buy 3 or 6 bottle cases / multiples of 6 bottles?
We use special wine bottle packaging to minimise the risk of breakages in transit. The unique design of the packaging is such that parcel integrity is only achieved with full boxes. You will see what we mean when you receive your first delivery.
How much is shipping?
For details about our shipping costs please check our Shipping and Delivery policy.
Do you ship overseas?
We can only deliver within the UK currently. For more details check our Shipping and Delivery policy.
How can I pay?
We accept most payment methods: Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Shop Pay, Amex, Visa, Mastercard and Maestro are all accepted at checkout.
How will I know when to expect my delivery?
All deliveries will be tracked. Once your order has been despatched you will receive a confirmation email together with a tracking ID. Most deliveries should arrive within 48 hrs from placement of order but may take slightly longer on exception.
What if I’m out when my delivery arrives?
If it’s not possible to deliver to the neighbours, our carrier will leave a note, informing you of how to rearrange delivery or collect the products from a local depot or from the nearest Pickup parcel shop. Please note that deliveries and pickups can only be made to customers who are of the legal age to purchase alcohol in the UK.
Why are some wines limited or out of stock?
We only work with small family growers. Our strength is in the artisan quality of the wines we offer. None of the wines on our site are made in great quantities and they often don’t hang about for long. We will always try to restock our popular wines as quickly as possible but sometimes this is simply not possible until the next vintage is available.
Do you sell natural/organic wines?
Our outright focus is on quality. The majority of the wines we offer are produced sustainably. Many are produced organically or using biodynamic methods adhering to low intervention winemaking practises. We highlight all of the organic/biodynamic wines clearly on the site so they should be easy to spot.
What if I suffer from allergies or intolerances?
It is difficult for us to know what allergies and intolerances may affect you. If you are unsure about any product don’t hesitate to use the online store “Chat” function or the Contact form provided in the contact section of our website
What about sulphites in wine?
Sulphites naturally occur in all wines and they are also often added during the winemaking process. Some people are sensitive to higher levels of sulphites in wine. Most of the wines we offer all contain far less sulphites than the maximum permitted levels. Again, if you are unsure about sulphites, don’t hesitate to ask using the online store “Chat” function or the Contact form provided in the contact section of our website
Are the wines ready to drink now?
Our wines are all ready to drink now but the quality is such that they will equally keep and continue to evolve and improve for several more years in bottle.
Why are your prices more expensive than some other wine retailers?
We always aim to be transparent and fair when it comes to selling UVenoteca wines. To understand our pricing strategy, you need to be aware how wine prices are calculated. As a rule of thumb, if you are looking at wines under £10 per bottle, we think you should question the quality of wine you are getting. UK import duty is £2.23 per bottle for still wine and £2.86 for sparkling. Then you have the cost of the bottle, label, shipping, the cost to produce the wine and the retailers margin. On top of all that, add on 20% VAT. If you subtract all these costs from your £10 bottle, the figure you are left with only supports the production of mass volume wines and quite frankly, you are better than that. These wines might be marketed as artisan, but the numbers don’t lie. We aren’t here to try to sell you a ‘field of dreams’, just proper artisan wines at fair prices.
Why don’t you offer promotional codes or volume discounts?
We prefer to be straightforward with our customers. No gimmicks, no deals that are too good to be true, no loss leaders. You will find plenty of that elsewhere! Our proposition is simple: carefully selected, quality artisan wines imported directly by ourselves from small growers. We work hard to ensure our margins are competitive on each and every bottle we sell, so no customer is disadvantaged whether they purchase 3 bottles or 300.
Why should I sign up to the UVenoteca mailing list?
So you can receive news about forthcoming releases (‘drops’), articles and events. It’s not our style to spam you with fake promotions and the hard sell. Many of the bottles we offer are limited availability and have loyal customer followings, so it helps to know when new stock or vintage releases are coming up. It goes without saying that anybody can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time.
